NCMEH: Ask Congress to End Chronic Homelessness

Ask Congress to Support $301 Million Increase to HUD’s McKinney-Vento Programs to End Chronic Homelessness

Last spring, the President proposed that Congress provide $2.406 billion in fiscal year 2015 for HUD’s McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants – a 14% increase over the final FY 2014 funding level. This increase would fund 37,000 new units of permanent supportive housing and ensure sufficient funding for renewal projects. Now, it’s up to us to ensure Congress follows through on that recommendation. Without an increase in funding, New Mexico may have to make cuts to our Continuum of Care and Emergency Solutions Grant programs in 2015, and we would not be able to accelerate progress toward ending homelessness.

Please join us in writing letters to our New Mexico Senators and to your NM Representative asking them to support a funding level of $2.406 billion for HUD’s McKinney-Vento programs.  This is part of a national effort by the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

With the election now behind us, Congress is likely to finalize FY 2015 funding in the coming weeks, so we need to act now.

Letters should be emailed directly to the staff person who works on housing/homelessness issues in each Congressional office. Click here for the name and email address of those staff members.

Please let us know when you send your letters so we can keep track of how many letters have been sent by emailing Lisa at
