Our Monday Meeting
When ANYONE walks through the doors at two o’clock for our Monday meeting they are greeted by a smiling volunteer. It’s not an ordinary smile it’s a sincere “How can we help?” smile, and it belongs to an extraordinary Santa Fe Need and Deed volunteer.
Once inside you will smell some real home cooking going on. Our awesome kitchen volunteers provide hot nutritious meals which they serve with such compassion that no one leaves hungry. Leftovers and donated foods are shared when available. We have piles of donated seasonal clothing for the taking, along with men and women’s hygiene kits.
Our table is the centerpiece of our meeting. From 2-3pm volunteers and friends gather at the table to SHARE. We share our meals, thoughts, worries, jokes, laughter, advice, culture and love. Together we create such an accepting, open energy.
After 3pm we circle for an uplifting affirmation and then settle down with a short meditation. Most Monday’s we host a guest speaker from a State or Local agency to help us better understand the benefits and services available to those of us in need.
Through an orientation meeting our volunteers learn the best practices for Santa Fe Need and Deed. There are specific guidelines to follow while volunteering at a group meeting. Volunteers are asked to arrive an hour before the meeting at 1:00pm to help prepare for our client friends.
